Custom Fences and Decks in Edmonton, Built Straight, Built to Code, Built to Last

A fence that leans after two winters or a deck that moves with the frost isn't a minor inconvenience, it's a problem that compounds. In Edmonton, wood expands and contracts, posts heave if they're not set right, and anything built without accounting for the climate shows it within a few seasons. We build fences and decks that hold their line, stay compliant with City of Edmonton height bylaws.

We install cedar, composite, vinyl, and pressure-treated fences plus custom decks across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and Spruce Grove. Many clients bundle fences and decks with paving stone patios or a full landscape design build, one crew, one timeline, one finished yard.

  • Step 1: Layout and Quote We mark lines, check access and bylaw heights, confirm material selection, and finalize scope.
  • Step 2: Post and Frame We set posts to proper depth and build a stable frame that handles frost movement.
  • Step 3: Boards, Gates and Finish We complete panels, install and align gates, and review the finished build with you.

Fence Materials, Height Limits and What's Compliant in Edmonton

Edmonton front yard fences are capped at 1.2 metres (4 feet). Back and side yard fences are permitted up to 1.85 metres (6.1 feet) without a development permit. We build to these limits so your fence is compliant from day one.

  • Cedar Fences — Our most popular privacy option. Naturally rot-resistant and can be stained or left to weather.
  • Composite Fences — A premium, low-maintenance option that won’t rot or warp like wood. Great for homeowners who want long-term privacy with minimal upkeep.
  • Pressure-Treated Pine — A durable, cost-effective choice for posts, framing, and utility builds.
  • Vinyl Fences — Low-maintenance and weather-resistant with a consistent look year after year.

Custom Deck Installation in Edmonton, Cedar, Composite and Pressure-Treated Builds

We build custom decks in cedar, composite, and pressure-treated wood, from ground-level platforms to elevated builds with stairs and railings. For Edmonton frost, decks over 0.6 metres above grade need proper footings, and we specify screw piles or deep concrete piles when required.

Permits depend on height and location. Backyard uncovered decks under 0.6 metres typically don't need a permit. We'll confirm requirements as part of your quote.

Pressure-treated is usually the most affordable, with cedar higher and composite highest. We quote after a site visit so pricing matches your actual build.

  • Most residential fence projects run about $45 to $65 per linear foot installed, depending on length, height, material, and whether we are replacing old fence or building new. Cedar usually costs more than pressure-treated, with vinyl typically in between.

  • Under the City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaw, front yard fences must not exceed 1.2 m (4.0 ft). Back and side yard fences are capped at 1.85 m (6.1 ft) without a development permit. We build to these limits so your fence is compliant.

  • No, if your fence is within the height limits (1.2 m front, 1.85 m back and side). A development permit is required if you exceed those limits, are on a corner lot affecting sightlines, or in a special zone.

  • A permit is required if the deck is over 0.6 m (about 2 ft) above ground, in a front or side yard, or has a roof or walls. Backyard uncovered decks under 0.6 m high typically don't need a permit.

  • Pressure-treated decks run about $40 to $55 per sq ft installed; cedar $55 to $80; composite $75 to $110 per sq ft installed. PVC and premium materials are higher. We quote after a site visit.

  • Decks under 2 feet high usually don't need piles. Decks over 2 feet need proper support (screw piles or deep concrete piles) to prevent frost heave in Edmonton's climate.
